Workhouse Lane

The main source of reference for creating this scene was an old black and white photograph of Workhouse Lane in Kettering in the 1890's from Tony Smith's book 'Kettering Revisited, pictures from the past.' I also referred to a sketch by Hugh Wallis (1891) in Frederick Bull's History of Kettering, a painting by W.T. Wright (1908) and the OS map from 1884 to help with the layout of the buildings.

I enjoyed the challenge of trying to make it look like the photograph but I also added in a few differences like the fire plug sign and some of the wear. The building in the background, not visible in the original photograph, is based on the Hugh Wallis sketch where just a hint of it is shown and the position was from the Ordnance Survey map.

The scene makes use of textures from Polyhaven and Textures.com.
